Scaffolds? And Scaffolding?

Hello, all. My name is Brian. I have a long standing appreciation for Japanese culture. It is my dream to someday purchase an akiya property and renovate it. I think that Japanese architecture is beautiful and I hope to someday sit outside of my very own akiya overlooking the gorgeous Japanese landscape while sipping a piping hot mug of traditional green tea.

I do have concerns about Japanese scaffolds, however, and I was hoping somebody might be able to shed some light on this topic and help inform me about the proper proccesses an practices about maintaining scaffolds. I have included, for your convenience, a photograph of what I am referring to.

There appear to be wooden "beams" that form an X above the room. If these were to get wet and "rot" and fall out, would the entire building collapse? My lifestyle involves lots of steam and an overall moist, humid environment so I am worried that due to my activities my scaffolds would get damp over time and eventually collapse. I do not wish to put myself in harm's way. Could anybody please tell me how to avoid this?

Best,

Brain

Somebody here has written a VERY rude, and off topic comment, but I will not respond to it! Please ignore.

Best,

Brian
