Do smart security cameras really need a paid plan for full features?

Some smart cameras offer great protection, but many important functions become available only with a paid plan. Features like cloud storage, detailed alerts or extended history seem useful, yet it feels unclear whether they should be included in the original purchase. Is paying monthly a reasonable way to improve security, or should essential features be complete from the start?

I didn’t expect it at first, but maybe subscription plans do make sense for people who want longer video history or extra security tools. Still, I’m trying to understand what should be included by default. I looked through https://arlo.pissedconsumer.com/customer-service.html just to see what others experienced, and it seems many users simply want clarity rather than free features. If paid options genuinely add value, I don’t mind them — I just wish it was easier to know what’s included before buying. Has anyone found the subscription helpful in daily use?
